Improved water quality for outdoor crops and food production

In the food industry, water quality plays a major role, both in irrigating outdoor crops and in treating process water. The Pro-Vida Nanogenerator is used worldwide to enrich water with stable nanobubbles that distribute oxygen evenly. This ensures a more constant oxygen level and more stable water quality.

Especially in outdoor crops such as soft fruit in warm countries, large irrigation systems with basins are widely used. Pro-Vida treats the water before it is supplied to the plants so that oxygen remains stable and the system suffers less from contamination. In the Netherlands this application is still limited, but in countries such as Chile, Peru, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia demand is growing rapidly.

More stable irrigation water for outdoor crops

In warm climates, microbiological pressure in irrigation water often increases rapidly. Lower oxygen levels, algae growth and contamination in basins pose risks to the crop. Treating irrigation water with nanobubbles makes the water more stable, keeps it fresh for longer and allows it to be distributed more efficiently across the field.

For crops with high water demand, such as berries, strawberries and soft fruit, this can make the difference between predictable growth and recurring problems in the irrigation system.

The units can be equipped with:

  • Oxygen generator: Adds 90% oxygen to the water; without an oxygen generator this is 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen.
  • Plasma generator: Provides an oxidizing effect in the water, for example against microorganisms and algae (abroad).
  • UV unit: Kills microorganisms and enhances the effect against algae.

Adding oxygen to biological water treatment systems

Food processing companies often produce wastewater containing organic residues such as meat or fish particles, fats and proteins. They pay levies for discharging this water; the cleaner the water is supplied, the lower the costs. Many companies therefore use biological water treatment systems in which bacteria break down a large part of the contamination.

These bacteria need a continuous supply of oxygen. Nanobubbles offer an efficient way to introduce oxygen into the water and keep it available for longer. This makes the biological treatment more stable and can help deliver cleaner wastewater.

Efficient oxygen distribution in process water

Nanobubbles remain suspended for longer and distribute oxygen evenly through the water. As a result, fluctuations in dissolved oxygen are reduced, which benefits both irrigation and treatment processes. The units are usually connected to basins or supply lines and can be adjusted for large water flows.

In addition to the food industry, our nanobubble generators are widely used in aquaculture and greenhouse horticulture.

Pro-Vida types

We offer seven standard "plug-and-play" types, as shown in the table below. We also build inline units and custom-made units.

Table Pro-Vida types

* For use in areas with thin air, so with low oxygen content (in the mountains), it is recommended to choose a stronger type. Contact your Pro-Vida supplier for a specific offer in this case.
**All unit run standard on 50 Hz, optional we can build them for 60Hz. 230V or 400V (depending on type) is standard, but we can also build them for other voltages.

Extra information:

Capacity: The capacity varies slightly per situation and depends, for example, on the length of the pipes and the number of height meters.

Oxygen generator: Ensures that 90% pure oxygen is added to the water, without an oxygen generator this is 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen.

Outdoor unit: The units can also be supplied as an outdoor unit.

The correct unit is selected based on, among other things, the questions below:

  • How many m3 of water are used per day at a peak time (summer)?
  • How much time is available to treat that amount of water?
  • What is the current oxygen level and what level do you want to achieve?
  • Where can the Pro-Vida be installed? For example, is there a day supply tank?
  • How often is the tank filled per day?
  • What is the temperature of the water?
  • How many hectares are grown on?

How does the Pro-Vida work

The Pro-Vida makes very small bubbles, nanobubbles. What exactly are nanobubbles? They are tiny air bubbles, so small that you cannot see them with the naked eye.

Did you know?

“Nanobubbles are smaller than 100 nanometers. For comparison, the thickness of a human hair is approximately 80,000 nanometers.”
